Laminating process for nautical glass. Why is it so important?

How to optimize the sizing of glass for marine applications through the laminating process?

As we have seen in the previous article, a highly controlled laminating process is decisive to guarantee the best sizing of nautical glass, reducing weight while guaranteeing the required bending resistance requirements.

What are the layering phases of nautical glass?

In the first phase of lamination, two monolithic glasses, even of different thicknesses, are joined together like a sandwich. The filling we are going to use is a sheet of plastic material, more or less rigid depending on the final application area and the required aesthetic result. In this phase, both the correct choice of plastic and the removal of impurities that may deposit between the layers of the sandwich are crucial.

The second phase is the “sandwich baking”, during which the bonding of the different layers takes place through a process in an autoclave at controlled temperature and pressure.

What results can you obtained through lamination?

The different combination of glass and plastic can configure products with various characteristics.

Specifically, at Veneto Vetro, we have certified several compositions that combine rigid and solar plastic: the VV Solar and VV Solar Plus compositions.

These are made using solar control plastics, which absorb infrared rays, allowing a 50% reduction in the direct transmission of heat to indoor spaces compared to standard laminated glass.

These solutions are specifically designed for the marine industry, as they allow for weight containment while at the same time providing a significant advantage in the energy requirement of cooling systems.

Are you looking for an experienced and specialized partner for your nautical project?

Marine glasses require maximum specialization and know-how. At Veneto Vetro, we offer consultancy and support to designers and shipyards, starting from the design phase of a boat.
