Veneto Vetro owns an innovative plant that can laminate two or more, flat or curved glass panes, using several interlayer types: transparent or coloured PVB, rigid, anti-hurricane plastic such as Sentry Glass (SG) and DG41, meshes, liquid crystal interlayers for privacy and solar control plastics. The purpose is to obtain a high thermal resistance and structural performance product. A combination of different types of glass, printing and plastics give you special aesthetic solutions. Veneto Vetro is constantly searching for innovative products to help architects and designers with application of new materials. Glass can be layered with the most original materials: metal netting, fabrics of various kinds or organic fibres. Stratified or laminated glass is a safety glass that does not smash when it breaks because the middle layer – typically polvinyl butyral (PVB) – combines the glass layers so that the broken glass remains in place, protecting people and objects in the vicinity.
The PVB used is mainly transparent, but on request may be coloured or with a frosted or milky-white finish. Laminating produces effects that are both aesthetic and functional. Use of a special interlayer with sound-proofing properties – PVB sound-proofing – creates an acoustic insulation effect.
Laminated glass: the materials
Veneto Vetro uses latest generation materials consistent with recent glass-making technique evolutions. Sentryglas is an interlayer known as “anti-hurricane plastic”; it offers high post-breakage resistance and reduces the risk of progressive subsidence to a minimum. This special plastic has various uses.
It is more transparent than traditional layered glass (for excellent transparency use of extra-clear glass is recommended). Glass layered with SG resists to mechanical stress that is twice as great as what traditional layered glass can bear, with rigidity that is four times higher based on the load and support conditions. If the glass is exposed to prolonged heat from the sun, glass layered with SGP has a lower loss of rigidity, with reduced deforming and subsidence in several applications. Sentry Glass also has exceptional resistance to humidity and stability on edges. During the layering stage, metal parts can be inserted directly in the layered glass. In structural glass applications that procedure enables use of an alternative fixing method, avoiding holes or passing studs.
One special interlayer is:
· EVA is a different plastic to PVB; it becomes soft and plastic when heated, making it possible to insert, between two or more interlayers, various materials such as decorations, metal nets, PET films, support for images, textile fibres or photovoltaic cells. It stands heating and humidity.
